Annie and Sage's summer wedding at Horning's Hideout is the perfect reflection of them as a couple, including their beloved dogs Pickles and Frankie, DIY details they worked on together, and a camping environment that allowed their nearest and dearest to spend the night after their wedding celebration. Sage entered the ceremony by riding his mountain bike down a big hill, launching off a ramp that he built himself, and skidding to a halt right in front of the altar. Annie had four bridesmaids who walked down the aisle with oversized balloons in lieu of bouquets. They wrote and read their own vows while their friend officiated. The tents and stage were decorated with tons of custom-fabricated string lights and paper lanterns. A friend Annie met while taking aerial classes created a beautiful aerial silks performance, and other loved ones cooked up a delicious Mexican buffet. Later in the evening, they decorated the pavilion with lanterns and pillows to create a DJ booth and lounge. Everyone danced until the sun came up, and the newlyweds spent their first night as a married couple in the tipi they set up on site. A charmingly unique DIY camping wedding in North Plains, OR
Sage and I met at Burning Man in 2008. We were drawn together by our interest in art and music. We were both self-employed and passionate about our jobs. That was a big attraction for both of us… independence and knowing how to cut loose! We got engaged in 2012. I learned how to play the guitar so I could write a song for him. I love singing more than anything so I figured I would use my passion to communicate something that was scary to ask. It was the first song I’ve ever written. We both cried. He said yes. We love doing creative projects together, especially crafting custom decor and lighting for events. We enjoy making beautiful spaces for others to appreciate with us. We also share a deep affection for our tiny dogs, being in nature, board games, and enjoying the culinary landscape of Portland.
I was overwhelmed by the kindness of our friends and family [on our wedding day]. Everyone showed up for us in such a big way. People shared their talents with us so freely and generously. We ended up having a top notch quality wedding with a relatively small budget. It was magical because of the people we love. We are really lucky. – Annie
