Megan and Hank's spring wedding in Florida was a foodie's dream come true! The bride, a chef, selected a one-of-a-kind dining experience for guests, and the wedding included an abundance of thoughtful and personal handmade details. Grind & Press Photography captured their day!
A foodie wedding in Apopka, FL
“We were having dinner at home, playing our favorite record, and our song came on. The Weight by The Band. He abruptly got up from the table, and went to his office and started banging around. This wasn't unusual behavior (as an artist, when an idea hits him, he'll often go draw something, or find supplies, ect.). He came back to the kitchen, got on his knee, and asked me to marry him. Best moment of my life.”
The Inspiration & Attire
“We wanted something elegant and understated, but fun and quirky. We chose colors early on: Navy and Peach with champagne, and silver accents. The location was just getting started as a wedding venue but we just LOVED it.
We had a few top priotites: food, booze, and music. It took us FOREVER to find a caterer. I am in the industry, and I knew I wanted delicious food, but I didn't want anything standard. I didn't want a formal plated meal, and I hated the idea of a buffet. Our original idea was to get 3 food trucks… But the space just didn't allow for that. About a month and a half before the big day we found Levan's. They totally understood what we wanted, let us bring in our own ideas, and everything they did was just perfect. We couldn't have been happier.
The SHOES were the first thing I got. Before my husband ever even proposed. ModCloth was having a Black Friday sale, and I knew I needed them for my wedding one day… so I just did it! I was nervous about dress shopping… because I hate shopping and trying on clothes and I had heard horror stories from friends of mine about dress sizing. But the third dress I tried on was…. perfect. It was lace, had a removable bottom half, and it wasn't WHITE. We have straps added to it in the same lace. My veil, however, was my favorite part. It was made from the train of my mother's wedding gown.”
Favorite Moments & The Flowers
“My favorite parts were my first looks with my dad and my husband. But watching the video, I loved seeing my flower girls hand deliver a gift to the groom. I had 3 adorable flower girls (a little older than the average one) and they did an AWESOME job.
The florist did a lovely job and even added in some really cool surprises for me. She added flowering kale, rosemary, and asparagus to a lot of the arrangements!! It sounds a little wierd, but it looked incredible.”
“The cake was one of the first things I checked off my list. My MOH and I scheduled a tasting with 3 places, and the third was Cut The Cake. Their cakes were moist and delicious… especially the CHAMPAGNE flavor. But when I told the baker that I was looking for a rosemary cake with a peach filling… They did that too! They emailed me a contract and everything. And the next weekend I went with my parents to a wedding expo in Orlando. My MOM found “the best cake ever!” And so I went to try it, as we had not yet signed the contract with CTC. The cake at the expo was in fact amazing…. because it was CTC and they were running an amazing deal, so we signed on the spot. We had a beautiful 4 layer naked cake. I still have the top in the freezer, can't wait til our anniversary to eat it again!”
The Favors & Special Details
“We made jam!! I cooked 2 kinds of jam: vanilla peach bourbon, and blueberry lemon. My amazing husband designed these really cute labels. It sounds simple, but it literally took us months to finish. But everyone loved it, so that felt good. We also gave out travel mugs at the end, so people could take their last beverages to go.
The gorgeous farm tables were my dad's idea. We were having a hard time finding a vendor to give us what we wanted. So in November (we were to be married 4 months later) he decided that he and my brothers would build and stain 30 farm tables. Crazy? Absolutely. But it made everything so special.
My mom, my grandmother, my flower girls, my junior bridesmaid, and my sister-in-law worked tirelessly on all the other details from napkin rings, to mason jar lights, to tapered candles, to flower buckets, to signage, just everything imaginable. Our wedding was truly personalized.
My engagement ring was his paternal grandmother's. My wedding band came from my maternal grandfather's mother. And my husband's wedding band came from his maternal grandfather. I also wore my paternal grandmother's pearl earrings that I borrowed from my Aunt. And I borrowed my mother's maternal grandmother's vintage pearl necklace. We had a lot of heirlooms!”
