Amanda and Joel’s gorgeous wedding took place at her parents’ bushland property at Tamborine Mountain. Each guest took a special stone before the ceremony, which they blessed during their exchange of vows. Amanda’s sister read “Guess How Much I Love You” by Sam McBratney, which Joel gave her as a Valentine’s Day present years ago. She walked down the aisle with both of her parents to “Miracle” by the Foo Fighters, the couple’s favorite band. The entire wedding was coordinated by the bride and groom, their bridesmaids and the bride’s parents. All of the paper goods were designed by Amanda’s friend, the flowers were arranged by Amanda and her bridesmaid, and in lieu of a cake, Joel’s mom made his favorite sweet (Rocky Road) as bonbonniere. Deep Grey did a brilliant job capturing Amanda and Joel’s unique and lovely wedding day.
Joel and I met at university in 2001 when we were both studying Environmental Science. It started out as a wonderful friendship and eventually we realised it was something a bit more special. We started dating in 2002 and have been inseparable ever since. We both love to have a laugh and try not to take ourselves too seriously, which is why we are not only soul mates but also the best of friends. Joel surprised me on secluded Sunset Beach on Mana Island in Fiji during a holiday in October 2010. He had been holding onto the ring for days waiting for the perfect sunset. Joel had the gorgeous diamond and blue sapphire ring made with help from my grandfather (a gem stone cutter) who cut the two blue sapphires. It was one of the happiest days of our lives. The [wedding] day was perfect, the sun was shining and everything went to plan (except for a few minor music problems). We love music and concerts, so we wanted to portray a sense of fun with a music garden festival vibe. We hired a large white marquee, which was decorated with fairy lights, silk and red decorations. We had games, a jumping castle, a bonfire and a photo booth for our guests to enjoy. We also included the wedding photos of our grandparents and parents as family is very important to the both of us. During the ceremony we laughed and cried, it was absolutely magical. We were able to spend lots of time with family and friends as we had the wedding on my parent’s bushland property. – Amanda
