A post-hurricane second chance wedding in Colts Neck, NJ

Liz and Colin were to be married August 27, 2011 – the day that Hurricane Irene hit the Jersey Shore. They had their ceremony at Colts Neck Reform Church, but they had to cancel their reception due to severe flooding in the Pt. Pleasant area. Although heart-breaking, they kept their spirits high and rescheduled their reception. Almost nine months later, everyone got re-dressed (aside from a few dress changes due to little ones on the way) for the reception at the Lobster Shanty and joined in the celebration of Liz and Colin's marriage. Jenelle Kappe Photography captured their second chance at a dream wedding!

My family was great and they made a lot of the calls for me, but even the few I had to make were awful. We wanted people to know we were still going to get married and have the ceremony, but that there was not going to be a party. We were absolutely beyond blessed to have about 75 people at the church on August 27th to see us get married and so many of them were out of towners. Friends from WI and Kansas – Colin’s family from FL, WI and Chicago. It was amazing! I think I was just focused on the fact that I was marrying the man I loved and not even a hurricane could ruin that. I think the hardest thing for me came the weeks and few months right after we got married when I couldn’t help but shake the feeling that we were cheated. I have always held my friends and family very near and dear to my heart and I LOVE the opportunities I have to gather different groups of friends and family together that don’t get to do that very often. I wanted to have all those people together in one room, which is why we decided to have the re-reception in May! – Liz

Oh, so lovely. That cake is so fun and the colors are just beautiful. There’s some really cool angles on the photography too. And the rain…how special!
