Honeymoon in Kenya

Summer in Kenya is the best time to honeymoon if you’ve always dreamed of an African safari. July marks the start of the migration of zebra, gazelles and wildebeests from the Serengeti plains to the grasslands, but it’s also a great time to experience glamping or visit the white sandy beaches of the northern coast.

A guide to planning your honeymoon in Kenya

Honeymoon in Kenya

Honeymoon Activities
  • Embark on safari in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve
  • Get a bird’s eye view with a hot air balloon ride
  • Head to the coast for Kenya’s finest beaches
  • Experience glamping like none other

It’s safe to say that the number one reason for honeymooning in Kenya would be to go on safari! The Maasai Mara Game Reserve is part of the Serengeti ecosystem and is one of the world’s most famous national parks, home to hundreds of species of birds, about 100 species of mammals (the largest concentration of large mammals on the planet), and the annual migration of more than 1.5 million wildebeest! It’s also the ancient homeland of the Maasai tribe. Game drives are offered in the daytime and even at night (with night-viewing binoculars).

A hot air balloon ride at dawn over the Great Rift Valley or Maasai Mara is an experience you’ll never forget. Early morning is the best time to go, giving you a magnificent and completely different perspective of the wild animals on the plains. Many companies even offer a champagne breakfast afterwards! Of course, this doesn’t replace the “up close and personal” experience of a game drive, but it can be an incredible way to view the Great Migration if timed right.

Situated on the north coast of Kenya, Watamu is a well-regarded spot for sustainable tourism and is home to gorgeous powder white sandy beaches. Nearby, you can snorkel or dive at the Malindi Marine Reserve Park, which is home to reef-protected lagoons, or enjoy the surf and sand at Turtle Beach and Blue Lagoon. Watamu’s marine life is breathtaking, including colorful coral gardens, whale sharks, manta rays and three species of sea turtle. Watamu has also been voted one of the top ten beaches in the world. A variety of other water sports await adventurous visitors, as well.

If you thought you knew glamping, think again – many five-star Kenyan resorts have taken the concept to a whole new level of luxury! In Kenya, it’s possible to lounge under your own posh, private canopy with all the best amenities as you observe the wildlife just a stone’s throw away. Kenya offers tent camps on the river, in the bush and overlooking the game reserve, so there’s something for every taste.
