A lowcountry spring wedding in Sheldon, SC

Nancy and Andrew's May wedding at Brays Island Plantation was the picture of Southern charm! The palette of green and blue was selected to portray the beauty of South Carolina's lowcountry. Wanda Cavazos of Richard Bell Photography captured their day!

I had a vision from the beginning, but didn't know exactly what to call it until one of my mom's friends coined our wedding theme as “casually chic” after talking through some of the details. The colors I chose were meant to exemplify the environment around us, but still have some life to them so as not to blend in too much. I chose a granny smith apple green as my main color, which was accented with a marine blue (similar to the color of the river behind our ceremony location) and burlap. My dad is making wooden boxes out of donated snow fencing from New York (where he grew up) to act as our centerpieces on our reception tables. All of the bouquets, boutonnieres, and flower arrangements will be made with greenery, Spanish moss, flowers, and/or berries that are mostly natural to the plantation. In addition, I really wanted to incorporate some family pieces into different parts of the day, so I will be wearing a brooch that belonged to my paternal grandmother in my hair, and will have a brooch that belonged to my maternal grandmother pinned on to my bridal bouquet. My veil has been re-made from my mother's veil from her wedding day. Our ringbearer pillow was made in the 80's by one of my aunts and has been passed around for use in multiple weddings on my mom's side of the family. The pillow cover was made from my maternal grandmother's silk blouse that was part of her wedding trousseau, dating back to the 1930's. Inside the pillow cover are signatures of multiple family members who have been married or in attendance at past family weddings, including my own signature from a family wedding I attended when I was 4 years old. We are anticipating a wedding weekend that will be filled with lots of joy, laughter, dancing, and love. As the saying in our family goes, “the circle widens, but it never parts.” – Nancy
